It’s not news that skin does not love the winter months. The air is dryer but the good news is that we age in the winter less than during the summer. Here are some winter skin care tips to keep your skin looking great during these colder months.
The key to keeping skin looking fresh in the winter months is hydration. Your face is the one part of your body that is exposed to the harsh elements so you need to take care of it. Choosing the right product to moisturize is important as well as drinking plenty of water.
In fact, you should add 2 glasses of water for every cup of coffee or alcoholic beverage you drink to ensure you are hydrated according to Patricia Faulstick, master esthetician at Lofty Salon.
Be sure to continue to use sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays which are present even if the sun itself is not.
Avoid super-hot showers or baths which can strip away your skin’s natural oils. While skin is still slightly damp, apply your moisturizing body lotion all over.
Avoid any products with alcohol in them especially hand sanitizers. Try to find alcohol-free hand sanitizers which are less drying than repeatedly washing your hands with soap and water. If you do use soap and water, get in the habit of applying hand lotion immediately after washing your hands.
Consider switching your facial products to a gentler cleanser and a thicker moisturizer to account for the change in seasons.
Along with all the tips above, protect your skin from the elements directly by wearing a scarf across your face when outside.
You can also freshen up your skin by visiting an esthetician for a facial to give you that healthy glow. Be sure to avoid harsh facial peels and trust your sensitive winter skin to a skilled esthetician.
